Carissa Moore

Carissa Moore is a celebrated professional surfer from Honolulu, Hawaii. She made history in 2011 as the youngest person to win a world surfing title at just 18 years old and went on to win the 2020 Olympic gold. 
 
Known for her fluid and powerful surfing style, Moore has secured multiple World Surf League Championship Tour victories. She’s not only a dominant force in competition but also an advocate for inclusivity and diversity within the sport, inspiring surfers worldwide.

As the 2020 Olympics drew near, we had the privilege of chatting with Carissa about the exciting inclusion of surfing in the Games. Against the backdrop of Japan, we dove into the unique challenges surfers would face in its waters.

This segment was a highlight of our Olympic Games event created for The New York Times, showcasing new sporting categories such as surfing, skateboarding, and climbing.
